In her first book, Free to Roam: The Story of the Joyriders 1979–2009, Daphne Davey shared her personal story of the founding and first three decades of this special therapeutic riding program. Enriched by all the people and horses who took part in the program over those years, and many in the wider community who supported it, she felt the call to continue its history.
Free to Roam: The Fourth Decade – The Story of the Joyriders 2009–2019 takes us up to the 40th Anniversary celebrations. Along the way, new faces emerge, old ones depart, but the spirit, vigour, enthusiasm, and commitment shine through as strongly as ever, both in the boardroom and the arena.
Daphne Davey returned to the Joyriders board as president in 2019. She remains active in the Joyriders programs as a certified instructor. She has also served on the board of the Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association, including four years as president, and now sits on the CanTRA Advisory Council. In her other life, she is an avid bird watcher, and volunteers with her local watershed association and her faith community.
